1st Water Council was held.
Within the purpose of the development of Turkey's water resources, 1st Water Council was organized by Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works, General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works and General Directorate of Water Management. Apart from Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, a total of 1631 participants consist of;
- 141 academicians from 66 universities;
- participants from 38 national non-governmental organizations;
- representatives of public institutions and organizations;
- officials of metropolitan municipalities;
- representatives of water and sewerage administration;
- participants from 32 private sector
presented their ideas and suggestions. The Council was started on 29 March 2021 and continued for 7 months. During this period, 11 different work groupsprepared their final reports. The “Water Council”, which is expected to guide the water policies of our country, was concluded with the closing meeting held on 04.10.2021.
Dr MSc. Civil Engineer İlker Atış and Dr MSc. Civil Engineer Kutay Yılmaz participated in Council representing ALTER and contributed to the preparation of the 1st Water Council Report, which raises awareness about current problems and strategies. In addition, with the online meetings held throughout the week within the framework of the closing meeting, the results of the “1st Water Council Report” were submitted to the vote of the participants.
Minister Bekir Pakdemirli reported that the outcome document about the goals and measures of the 1st Water Council which was set out by common sense will be announced to the public with a program to be held in the last week of October / 2021.
On October 20, 2021, the Final Declaration of the Council was announced to the public at the 1st Water Council Closing Ceremony with the participation of our President, Mr Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
