Samsun is a metropolitan city with a present population of app. 500.000 inhabitants. Existing wastewater collection and stormwater drainage systems were insufficient and malfunctioning. There were wrong connections of wastewater sewers to the stormwater culverts which directly discharged to the sea water in the harbour without treatment. There was no wastewater treatment plant. Scope of the project;

  1. Assessment of the existing facilities and identification of insufficiencies.
  2. Master planning of sewerage system for staged future years of 2015 and 2025.
  3. Determination of priority investments (until year 2015)
  • Separation of wastewater and stormwater sewers
  • Diversion of sewers that are discharging combined wastewater and stormwater directly to the harbor
  • Completion of the main sewer trunk and lift stations
  • Construction of a new wastewater treatment plant at east end of Samsun
  • Leachate handling at the wastewater treatment plant
  • Construction of a sea outfall structure for effluent discharge
  • Sludge management
