Existing water supply and sewerage services were not sufficient in Sivas. Water supply system failed to provide continuous and adequate supply of safe drinking water. False connections of waste water sewers and storm water drains caused unhygienic flooding of sewerage system. There was no waste water treatment plant, and Kızılırmak in near vicinity of Sivas, was highly polluted. Need for improvements of related services were assessed. Municipality of Sivas, KreditanstaltfürWiederaufbau (KfW) and European Investment Bank (EIB) agreed to co-finance implementation of rehabilitation measures under this project.
- Water supply component (Lot 1) of the Project comprised physical investments such as network zoning, bulk metering, hydraulic modeling and loss reduction.
- Sewerage component of the Project comprised separation of false waste water connections from storm water sewers and establishing a new primary storm water collection system (Lot 2), and construction supervision of a WWTP for 340,000 inhabitants (Lot 3).
