Tekirdağ Water Supply Project

  • Financing : Equity Capital
  • Service : Water Supply
  • Employer : State Hydraulic Works, 11th Regional Directorate
  • Project Duration : 2002 - 2006

Tekirdağ, situated on the western coast of Marmara Sea, is a town within the hinterland of Istanbul Metropolitan City. The rapid growth of Istanbul during last 25 years adversely affected the development of Tekirdag and the town became more and more a summer resort for inhabitants of Istanbul. The town extended its borders on the coast and joined with 3 other settlements; namely, Barbaros-Karabağ, Yeni Çiftlik and Marmara Ereğlisi. Inadequate planning that could not cope with this development necessitated in an overall review of existing water supply facilities, development of new water resources to meet the future demand and planning and scheduling of resource allocation up to year 2029. A new earth fill dam, Naipköy Dam with a water intake structure, a new gravity transmission main, 1 pump station, a new pressure main, a new water treatment plant and a terminal reservoir are planned to supplement the existing well field supply of water.
